Kelsey Ferguson has grown up with Bobbles & Lace. This Maine native and Charleston transplant started her career with the company, fell in love with the brand, and now she and her husband are excited to share this fun, funky boutique with you, dear readers. And we are, too.
“I built my career within Bobbles & Lace right out of college, starting as an Assistant Store Director and learning the business from the inside out,” says Ferguson. Today, she is the Director of Franchise Operations for the brand, helping people up and down the East Coast bring Bobbles & Lace to their own neighborhoods.
When Ferguson’s mother moved to Charleston in 2019, Ferguson realized the Holy City needed its own Bobbles & Lace. It took a few years to get all the ducks in a row, but when the Charleston location opened in 2023, Ferguson says, “it felt like the perfect opportunity to take everything I had learned throughout my career and create a store of our own. Charleston was a market we really believed in, and from the beginning we wanted the store to feel connected to the city while still staying true to the Bobbles & Lace brand. Last year, we expanded again and opened in Savannah, Georgia.”
From new college grad to business mogul in less than a decade—we at Fig Magazine can totally get behind growth like that.
So what is Bobbles & Lace, and who’s going to want to shop there? “I always describe Bobbles & Lace as elevated, approachable, and very of-the-moment,” says Ferguson. “We love fashion and trends, but we never want getting dressed to feel intimidating or overly serious. There’s always a balance between those special statement pieces and the things you will reach for over
and over again.”
“What I love most about Bobbles & Lace is that there really isn’t one ‘Bobbles woman,’” she adds. The team styles women across ages, lifestyles, and personal styles, and couldn’t be prouder of it.
They want fashion to feel personal. “Two women can walk into our store, gravitate toward completely different pieces, and both leave feeling like the store was made for them,” she says. “Our job is to help someone find the pieces that make her feel most like herself, just a little more confident and elevated.”
Ferguson’s team is fully trained to style from head to toe—hat to shoe, they carry and style it all—and works hard to ensure the experience feels less like retail and more like a high-end styling studio. Shopping at Bobbles & Lace, says Ferguson, should be nothing short of inspiring.
“More than anything, I want every customer to feel welcomed, comfortable, and excited when she walks through the door,” she says. “Whether she leaves with an entire wardrobe or just comes in to say hi, I want her to feel like she is part of our community.”
And really, isn’t that what every great local business should be?
