When Dr. Juliette Mills-Lutterodt (aka Juls) was diagnosed with breast cancer, her world turned upside down. A 40-year-old mother, entrepreneur, and rising star in the hairstyle industry, for Juls this was a massive, terrifying wrench in her plans. However, her two-year path to recovery—packed with chemo and complex procedures—was to Juls an opportunity for reflection and, eventually, creation.
From her very first salon, built from the ground up and centralized on healthy hair care for women, through her newest products today, Mills-Lutterodt has always been dedicated to female empowerment. But it wasn’t until her battle with breast cancer that Juls began dreaming of a brand wholly focused on celebrating the resilience of women, their endurance, their beauty in the face of pain.
It was from pain in a small white hospital bed that The House of Juls was born.
Beginning with the Juls Collections, lines of luxury leather handbags inspired by the closets of Mills-Lutterodt’s mother and aunts, The House of Juls’ products draw heavily on cultural heritage and women’s history. Each piece is crafted with intent by artisans employing techniques like hand-dyeing and hand-sewing. Juls isn’t just making bags; she’s making art imbued with care and character.
Their gorgeous tones and polished glimmer aren’t the only reasons to buy a luxury handbag from The House of Juls. 20% of all profits are donated to Juls’ charity, Pink for Africa which is dedicated to spreading breast cancer awareness and funding breast cancer treatment in impoverished regions of Africa. To date, over 850,000 women have been helped by Pink for Africa – with that number climbing by the day!
Bags named after women–Ophelia, Asha, Oriana–and bags for women, The House of Juls has it all! To get your hands on a bag of your own, visit their website https://www.julscollections.com/ or take a stroll through the center of Downtown Charleston and find them in their gorgeous spot at 359 King Street.
This summer, buy a bag and save a life.
