Meet Sara Chakeris. Born and raised in Charleston, the daughter of Caroline Chakeris—founder of the well-established women’s clothing store Madison Mathews—Sara is no stranger to Lowcountry retail and the art of textiles. However, while she had a deep appreciation for her mother’s work, it was never Sara’s plan to continue in Carolines’ footsteps.
That’s why in 2022, after graduating from the University of Mississippi with a degree in business, Sara made the daunting move to New York City to pursue a career in finance. But it seems a knack for clothing runs strong in the Chakeris blood, and soon in her free time Sara found herself designing one-of-a-kind pieces for her closet. Still, Sara didn’t think much of it; clothing was just a hobby, until, on the busy streets of NYC, a city known for its progressive fashion, people began stopping Sara on the street asking, “Where did you get that?”
As that question was asked over and over again, Sara began to wonder: what if I did this instead? After encouragement from her mother, Sara decided to take the leap, and soon Chakeris, the clothing brand, was born.
Success was practically immediate. Chakeris’ first dress, the “Ella,” sold out in a day. Since then, Sara has been bringing comfortable and creative women’s clothing to the Lowcountry. Naming items after close friends, Sara Chakeris puts her life and heart into every piece. Additionally, because Sara’s is a small-batch approach, keeping per-item inventory low, Chakeris’ clothing is all the more special. Once it’s gone, it’s gone!
Recognized and displayed in magazines like The New York Times, Vanity Fair, and Vogue, Sara Chakeris’ clothes have made an impact far beyond the streets of Charleston. Still, the Lowcountry, where she grew up working in her mother’s shop, is the place Sara calls home.
Flowing skirts, airy shorts, chic dresses, and magnificent prints: Sara Chakeris does it all. If you want to get your hands on this fresh fashion, visit chakeris.com for all your clothing needs.
