Maria Scott always planned to own a business. What she didn’t plan for was feet. But when the idea for her spa came to her organically, she realized she’d found an opportunity to redefine luxury in the Lowcountry. Today, that vision has become Sole Sanctuary, a high-end, luxurious spa devoted entirely to Charleston’s feet.

“People often ask where the idea for my spa came from, and the answer is simple. It began with one unforgettable experience,” says Scott. “While traveling, I received the most incredible foot massage. It was so exceptional that I spent my entire flight home thinking about it. Somewhere above the clouds, inspiration turned into a vision.”

Scott had always dreamed of entrepreneurship; she just didn’t know what form it would take. “Over the years, I’ve had many ideas and possibilities, but I never found the one that felt completely right,” she says. “What makes this spa so special to me is that the idea came in such an unexpected and organic way. I wasn’t searching for the next business idea. I simply had an
experience that left such an impression on me that the rest unfolded naturally.”

Rather than simply recreate that experience, Scott set out to reimagine it, redefining relaxation and pampering in the process. “I envisioned an elegant retreat where foot wellness was elevated, where impeccable service, beautiful design, and genuine hospitality came together to create something truly extraordinary.”

Today, every detail of Sole Sanctuary reflects that original vision. Scott has created a luxurious space where guests leave feeling restored, refreshed, and genuinely cared for. Every element has been thoughtfully curated to enhance the experience—from plush robes and premium skincare products to carefully selected scents that create a calming, restorative atmosphere.

“True luxury is about creating a feeling that stays with you,” says Scott. “I wanted to create a place where guests can step away from the pace of everyday life, feel genuinely cared for, and experience the little moments of comfort and relaxation that make them feel restored.”

Whether stopping in for a moment of self-care or making wellness part of a regular routine, guests will find more than a spa at Sole Sanctuary. They’ll discover a peaceful retreat where slowing down is encouraged, thoughtful details matter, and every visit is designed to leave them feeling just a little lighter than when they arrived.
