Shopping & Retail
Two Boroughs is sharing the charm, one shop at a time
The Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood is a shopping district with ultra local shopping.
Whether you’re a Charleston local or a curious visitor, the Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood is a one-stop escape for ultra local shopping.
Affectionately known as Two Boroughs, these charming neighborhoods in the heart of the peninsula, along King, Cannon, and Spring streets, are redefining retail. Each historic street is lined with small businesses and independent retailers, each with its own unique story and mission.
For example, Hermosa Jewelry’s Haley Holzworth tells us: “I began selling my jewelry when I was just 15 years old, driven by a love for making unique pieces that tell a story and celebrate life’s special moments. Hermosa means “beautiful” in Spanish, and our mission is to make women feel beautiful and confident through wearing our unique jewelry.”
Haley adds, “Planting my shop roots in the Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood felt like the perfect fit because of the incredible community of small, local businesses, many of them female owned. Our shop has become a gathering place for locals and visitors alike, and it means so much to be part of a community that values craftsmanship, connection, and the beauty of Charleston itself.”
Mimi Striplin of The Tiny Tassel shares: “I started with $500, an Etsy account, and a dream back in 2016. I was working at a menswear store in Charleston and making tassel earrings as a creative outlet on the side. There was something magical about watching someone try on our earrings and seeing their face light up—that immediate joy became what our brand is all about. Being in Charleston’s Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood means everything to us. We’re proud to be a woman and Black & Japanese-owned business that gives back through partnerships with local organizations.”
And Casey Berry of The Paper Canopy adds, “We believe in the everyday magic of paper, the joy of creating, and the art of connection. I hope people walk into The Paper Canopy and feel inspired to slow down and savor life’s little moments, whether it’s writing down your thoughts with your favorite pen, thoughtfully gift wrapping a present, or sketching the Folly Beach sunset. We’ve carefully curated the tools and supplies to spark your imagination and creative curiosity because we believe everyone is creative. (Yes, you!)”
These are just a few of the dozens of unique shops that comprise the Two Boroughs retail community.
So if you want a new shopping experience, skip the parking hassle and explore a walkable, charming pocket of the Peninsula for the best of ultra local shopping and activities.
