Stay Wild, All Year Long: Inside Gallery by SEWE

Where wildlife art lives and breathes in the heart of downtown Charleston

The only problem with the annual Southeastern Wildlife Expo (SEWE)—three days of celebrating wildlife art and the great outdoors—is that it ends far too quickly. But what if the spirit of SEWE didn’t have to fade once the weekend was over?

Since 2024, Gallery by SEWE, tucked into The Shops at Charleston Place, has been keeping the celebration alive with a dedicated gallery and interactive studio space that showcases the very best in wildlife art. Born from a desire to give this genre a permanent local home, the gallery is far more than a shopping experience—it’s an immersion.

“What you can’t fully capture online is the personal connection,” says Meagan Trotta, marketing and sales director at Gallery by SEWE. “There’s nothing like meeting artists, discovering new work in an intimate setting, and feeling the energy of SEWE’s mission come to life year-round.”

Step inside and you’ll find pieces that make you gasp, grin, or pause in wonder. From sweeping Lowcountry landscapes and gleaming equine portraits to whimsical farm-animal scenes, the gallery offers something for every wildlife enthusiast. Backed by SEWE’s 40 years of expertise, the collection is curated with intention, depth, and unmistakable heart.

And it’s not just the art on the walls. “One of our proudest collaborations is serving as the official host of Fieldshop by Garden & Gun,” Trotta adds. Born from Garden & Gun’s dedication to craftsmanship and Southern culture, the partnership enhances the gallery’s experience. “It gives our guests a unique experience to explore curated gifts, artisanal goods, and one-of-a-kind items alongside the incredible wildlife art. Collaborations like this highlight the spirit of SEWE, bringing people, art, and the natural world together in memorable and meaningful ways.” The display is arresting: diverse in medium and subject, yet unified by quality and beauty.

Meanwhile, the in-house studio brings the creative process to life. Working artists use the space daily, giving visitors the chance to connect with local creators and uncover the stories behind each brushstroke. That intimacy is intentional, Trotta notes. “At Gallery by SEWE, we aim to create a space where guests can feel the story behind every piece of wildlife art. It’s about connection — between the art, the artist, and the natural world.”
