SOMM Wine Bar is redefining Lowcountry wine culture

Sip, savor, and stay awhile at their Johns Island and Summerville locations.

Tucked into the heart of Johns Island—right where Main Road meets Bohicket (IYKYK)—you’ll find a not-so-secret gem of a wine bar run by a United States Navy veteran and sommelier, where beautiful memories are made over thoughtfully poured wine and irresistible charcuterie.

SOMM Wine Bar, owned and operated by Jordan Hooker (favorite red grape: Sangiovese; favorite white grape: Chenin Blanc), is dedicated to offering a carefully curated selection of wines designed to delight both casual sippers and true wine fanatics. From reds and whites to rosés and sparkling pours, SOMM has something for every palate, available by the glass, flight, or bottle. Pull up a seat at the elegant bar, strike up a conversation with the knowledgeable staff, and share what you love or let them guide you to something new. Pair your pick with a beautifully arranged board of meats, cheeses, and crave-worthy pickled accompaniments, and settle in for a while.

For those who take their wine seriously (or love a good perk), SOMM’s wine clubs are reason enough to stop by. From the OG Wine Club to Premium selections and the aptly named Club Chill—featuring cold-served favorites—members enjoy two bottles each month, discounts on snacks, and complimentary charcuterie on pickup day. It’s an easy, enjoyable way to fill your private cellar while forming genuine connections with a team that knows wine and truly cares about your experience.

SOMM also opens its doors for private events, making it an ideal setting for bridal showers, bachelorette nights, and intimate celebrations. Hosting here means access to exceptional wine, inviting ambiance, and a staff ready to make your event seamless. (We at Fig Magazine gently suggest skipping the baby shower—there are few things crueler than watching your besties sip great wine while you’re abstaining.) In addition to private gatherings, SOMM hosts regular events of its own, including chef pop-ups, mahjong nights, and other creative community happenings.

And for those farther north thinking, Sounds lovely, but Johns Island is a trek, we have good news. SOMM Wine Bar has expanded to Nexton, bringing the same thoughtful curation, wine clubs, and welcoming atmosphere to Summerville and beyond.

Whether you’re stopping in for a quiet glass after a long day, meeting friends for a celebratory bottle, or discovering your next favorite vintage, SOMM is the kind of place that invites you to linger and makes you want to come back.
