Coffee, pastry, and friendship: these three things are the foundation of Odd Duck Market’s charm. Launched in 2023 by two best friends, Andrew Hare and Jared Hellman, it quickly became a staple in the Park Circle community. Then in January of this year, buoyed by its resounding success and loyal avian patrons, Odd Duck Market spread its wings (and its delicious menu), opening a second cafe in Summerville.
What makes these ducks so special? Well, honestly, it’s hard to point to any one-thing. Is it their famous focaccia, baked fresh at the nearby Saffron Bakery? Is it their spectacular breakfast and lunch menu with delicious and inventive options for every sort of eater? Is it the eclectic collection of local wares and snacks they carry, letting you do your shopping and sip on a delicious latte all in one go? Or is it the friendship at its founding which makes Odd Duck Market exceptional?
Andrew Hare and Jared Hellman have been friends for a long time, brought together by a shared love of food and hospitality. In fact, Odd Duck isn’t this pair’s first culinary venture. In the early 2000s Hare and Hellman were the masterminds behind a downtown deli, Bubba Slye’s. However, after selling Bubba Slye’s over ten years ago, the two went their separate ways: Hellman to the world of digital consulting and Hare to hydroponics. By 2023, however, both were starving for Food & Bev, so in an empty office building in Park Circle, Odd Duck Market came to life.

Well, lucky for you Odd Duck Market is open every day from 7 am to 7 pm in their Park Circle location —1082 East Montague Avenue, North Charleston—and from 7 am to 4 pm in their Summerville location —117 South Cedar Street, Summerville.
