Where Two Coastlines Meet

“The goal is for the experience to feel distinctly Charleston, while taking guests on a journey across the Mediterranean,”

Terra is the signature in-house restaurant at the Live Oak hotel in the heart of Charleston’s Historic District. The atmosphere is warm, elegant, and designed with an elevated coastal aesthetic, bringing a refined but casual Mediterranean-inspired restaurant to the Holy City.

The team behind Terra had the desire to create a strong sense of “place,” so patrons don’t feel like they’re dining in a hotel restaurant. They want you to feel like you’ve arrived somewhere. “The goal is for the experience to feel distinctly Charleston, while taking guests on a journey across the Mediterranean,” says Kris Betz, Terra’s general manager.

The inspiration behind Terra’s menu stems from marrying the culinary traditions of the sun-drenched Mediterranean coast with the native bounty of the Carolina Lowcountry. “Charleston and the Mediterranean share a deep connection to the coast,” says Betz. “That gives Terra a very natural culinary point of view. Both regions have food traditions shaped by the water, local fishermen, seasonal produce, and the ingredients available in their surrounding communities.”

Executive Chef Eucepe Puntriano—formerly of Marbled & Fin—has created an elegant and mouth-watering menu. The dishes are inspired by the sunny coastlines that border the Mediterranean in all four directions, including Spain, Morocco, Israel, and Greece. Betz explains, “At Terra, we want to celebrate the incredible seafood and products of the Lowcountry while using the flavors and techniques of the Mediterranean to present them in a fresh and unexpected way.”

If you read online restaurant reviews, you’ll find that Terra patrons rave about appetizers like Yellowfin Tuna with blood orange, fennel, citrus, and Calabrian chili, Fire Roasted Oysters with harissa butter, pickled mustard, and lemon, and the Mezze Board with hummus, baba ghanoush, carrot harissa, and labneh, with housemade warm pita. Popular entrees include the Mixed Seafood Paella, the Bone-In Duroc Porkchop with citrus fennel jus and Jerusalem artichoke, and the Whole Roasted Branzino with preserved tomato medley, herb oil, and lemon.

Terra is not merely the perfect place for your next romantic dinner or special occasion. The restaurant is also available to host private events, and every Tuesday from 4pm to 9pm, Terra hosts weekly “Industry Nights,” offering hospitality professionals 50% off the dinner menu and select bottles of wine.

So come for the incredible food, creative cocktails, and attentive staff, but linger for a while. After all, you’re visiting the Mediterranean. What’s your rush?
