Skin care is self-care

In 2018, Chinenyem Nwadiugwu, CEO and founder of She Biology, knew something had to change. After years of working long, stressful hours in the software industry, the digital overload was taking a toll on Chinenyem, materializing in her mind and on her skin. Acne, insomnia, eczema, anxiety—there seemed to be no solution. Nwadiugwu found refuge in her roots.

Nwandiugwu fondly recounts memories of her mother at the mirror, perched on the bathroom counter, feet soaking in warm water, tenderly massaging rich, organic oils into her skin as sermons hummed out their home’s heartbeat in the background. What stood out to her in 2018 was more than her mother’s routine: it was the cumulation of care. At the end of each day, this ritual skincare was a mindful moment for reflection and relaxation.  As she recalled the comfort it brought, Nwadiugwu decided that if it had worked once, it would work again.

Mirroring her mother, Nwadiugwu launched a new—transformative—nightly self-care routine. Her anxiety lessened, her skin cleared, and Nwadiugwu began to feel like herself again. Her body, her life, was back in her hands.

Astonished by her own metamorphosis, soon Nwadiugwu began to wonder if it would work for others.  It was then that She Biology was born.

Dedicated to the cross-section between skincare and self-care, for eight years Nwadiugwu has been bringing happiness and healthiness to the Lowcountry. Rooted in psychodermatology and lived experience, She Biology’s carefully crafted skincare nourishes the body and the mind.

Driven by the desire to make products her two-time cancer survivor mother could use, She Biology uses clean and organically cultivated ingredients, largely sourced from independent farms across the Carolinas. Nwadiugwu takes pride in making products that are all natural and cruelty-free, safe for our people and our planet.

From hemp-infused serums to multi-use cleansers for sensitive skin, She Biology’s skincare is for everyone. No matter where you come from, or where you’re going, their carefully crafted merchandise is built to nurture and nourish along the way.

You can find their thoughtfully curated products online at shebiology.com, carried by retailers like Nordstrom, or in the heart of Downtown Charleston at She Biology’s beautiful new location, 395 King Street.
